Date rape is a serious action there are no positive outcomes whether it is the victim or the suspect. If you are the suspect the legal punishment is pretty bad and for the victim there can be mental and physical damage. There are three particular questions that will be answered; what is the motivation for date rape, and what are the consequences for date rape? Why would anyone in their right mind want to rape someone? The suspect’s punishment or consequences are more than likely going to deal with the the law and the victim’s consequences are more than likely going to be mental or physical damage. The average prison time for rape is from eight to nine years and when you get out of prison you have to register as a sex offender and it has to be updated the remainder of their lives. Now you have the punishment of rape to think about before you take a woman/man on a date and then decide to rap them. Most people don't want to spend eight to nine years in prison. A perfect example is a kid who’s at school and is about to walk out of class,but the only thing that stops him from walking out is the thought of what his consequences are going to be when he gets home. Now the consequences for the victim take a toll on the body and mind.What the victims go through after the crime is called Rape Trauma Syndrome (RTA). According to “rapecrisis.org.za” the physical affects of RTA can include pregnacy, sexually transmitted diseases,sleep disturbances , and eating disturbances.The mental trauma of rape includes: increased fear and anxeity,self blame and guilt, and becoming suicidal these affects are very severe.
