Persuasive Essay On Dental Disease

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2017) dental disease is the most common chronic illness for children in the United States. Dental disease is a preventable disease, but goes untreated or steps toward prevention are not taken because the disease affects low-income families (CDC 2017). How should this disease be prevented and what can policy makers do? The U.S. health care system had policy dealing with public education for oral care, but dental care is still not a priority. The failure of this attempt could be caused by the significance that oral care play in people’s lives. A way to combat this would be to revert to the 1920s and stigmatizing people would bring back the fear of being embarrassed. This reversion would appeal to the teenagers because they are at the time where they just want to fit in. This change that would be implemented plays into the fears of social exclusion of Americans. So that would lead to a waste of money, which could be considered a con. Another con would involve that’s a lot of money going towards oral care without a lot of assurance it will work. For it to be effective, people would need to take responsibility for having their toothbrush and using the extra time given.
