With any new breakthrough in the science world, the population worries about the risks that could harm them or their loved one’s life. Genetically modified babies or “designer babies” have become the latest attraction in the world of science. Originally, modifying the embryo was for correcting DNA errors from both parents. As the gene-editing technique continued, the motive took a turn for the worst. The public began to create “designer babies.” Scientists have begun to find a fault in their process that could possibly affect the population, no matter the outcome. This technique would help those children and their future generations live a healthy life. This is a huge plus for the science world, but is one of few remarkable things. As they progress, new techniques are used to get rid of diseases, one being the “Crispr-Cas9” used to snip genes very accurately. “Thanks to Crispr-Cas9, it seems likely that gene therapies – eliminating mutant genes that cause some severe, mostly very rare diseases – might finally bear fruit, if they can be shown to be safe for human use” (Ball).
