Is everyone perfect when it comes to driving? Of course not. Government officials believe that reducing driving privileges for teens will make things safer and keep people “out of danger” when really it doesn’t.Some restrictions are extremely outrageous, but some rules underway about teens being on the road make perfect sense. Reasonable statements for teens being on the road is the minimum age for acquiring a learners permit/drivers license is sixteen years old, banning cellphone usage while driving, and that limiting certain driving privileges will impact a teenager’s life.
First, Congress wants to change the way teens obtain their license. The new bill states that the minimum age for a teen to earn their driver's permit is sixteen years old. According to the passage “ A sixteen-year-old minimum age for acquiring a learner’s permit, a graduated license, and an eighteen-year-old minium age for acquiring an unrestricted driver’s license”. Which is the main reason why congress wants to ban cell phone usage for teens. According to the passage, “The rising number of teen deaths at the hands of teenage drivers is the main motivation for the change.” Dialing, texting, calling, listening, and even reaching for your phone increases risks of getting into an accident. Though teens are more likely to pick up their phone while driving, adults are guilty of using their phones while driving. Most people believe that they can handle using their phones while driving, but the numbers don’t lie due to high death rates from phone usage in vehicles. Using a phone while driving isn’t as important as someone losing their
