Thesis: While volunteering through foster parenting has many positives and some negatives, many couples volunteer to foster because they cannot have children on their own, their children are grown but they still desire the noise and joy a child brings into a home, or they simply desire to make an impact on a child's life without realizing the sadness they will encounter when placement ends. 1. Even though many families like Amy and Doug decide to volunteer to become foster parents to make a difference in a child's life they often do not realize the effect it will have on them when the child leaves their home.
