The way society views raising a child the right way is by having both a mother and father. In society’s eyes it’s simply unacceptable to have two mothers, or two fathers. What if you think about it this way, no mother, no father, no parents, and no family. Depressing right? Is it really possible that two gay men can’t raise a well-rounded child, just as heterosexual couples do? It seems as most will disagree and say that it wouldn’t be in the child’s best interest if two gay men raised them. There are laws in some states that actually ban gay couples to adopt children together, they would have to adopt them individually, and from there go through more complications from there on out. Gay men have been facing many challenges when it comes to adopting children for many years. Limited research exits comparing gay couples and heterosexual couples as parents and the similarities and differences between the two. Recently more people have been doing research and been finding that there isn’t much difference when adopted children grow up in the difference homes. Field studies of adoption didn’t begin till around the 1920’s. The only reason why studies started to come about is because the Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997 required that states collect information about adoptions of children in public foster care. People never knew much about the historical statistics, but they did know that adoptions were very rare, even when it was at its peak in the 1970’s. (Source?)
