Homosexuality has become a very open subject in the society of today, but just because it is inevitable does not make it right. Homophobic parents can cause the child of that family to suffer greatly. The rights of homosexuals should be limited, especially with adoption of a child. An adopted child already has a different life compared to a child born to his or her parents, having homosexual parents makes that child’s life lack normality. Gays and lesbians should not be allowed to adopt children because they cannot provide a traditional-family upbringing, the children may be bullied, and there are many legal issues that are not yet resolved.

Each state has different adoption laws that apply to gay and lesbian couples. In states that do not allow homosexuals adoption, the second parent is not measured as a legal parent, which can limit their rights (“Legal Issues”). In other states, one person in the partnership can adopt the biological child legally through stepparent adoption or domestic partner adoption. Parents that go through the legal requirements for becoming a second-parent or stepparent can act as a backup security form if the couple plans to travel to a state that does not abide by their automatic parental rights or legal relationship (“Legal Issues”). Parents who do not go through the legal process of becoming parents will be denied parental rights concerning their child. Many times the case is that lesbian and gay couples plan to bring a child into their lives through birth and conception. Lesbian couples must visit a sperm bank to help one of the partners become pregnant or find a male donor for the same process. The use of a surrogate mother can help gay men become legal parents in the fashion of conception and birth (“Legal Issues”).
