Every day across the globe people face abuse in many different forms because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
They have to endure discrimination, violence, imprisonment, torture or even execution, only because of who they are. But love, the most natural and powerful thing in the world, is still something that’s considered wrong.
The world is developing each day towards the better. More and more countries are taking the steps towards equality.
For a very long time sexual activity between the same sex was illegal. It was as late as 2003 that it became legal in the US. Before that, homosexuality was considered a crime or even a disease.
The right to same sex marriage became legal in 2015. Even though it took a very long time for the LGBTQ rights to become laws, it’s still something to be grateful for. The way to equality between all sexualities

What’s also missing is a federal law preventing discrimination. There’s still much left to be done by the government.
Another side of the problems for LGBTQ community is hate crimes. In the US they might not be punished, imprisonment or executed on a federal level, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have to endure abuse.
One of the biggest hate crimes took place in 2015. It was the worst mass shouting in USAs history. A man attacked a gay club in Orlando and killed 49 people. it wasn’t a coincidence that it was a gay club and happened during pride month. It was a horrible hate crime against the LGBTQ community.
This incident isn’t an isolated crime. A analysis made by FBI in 2011 states that ”LGBTQ people are more that twice as likely to be the target of a violent hate crime than jews or black people.” The accurate number of victims of these hate crimes is hard to determine. Many choose not to report an attack in fear of outing themselves, so the statistics is bit misleading and doesn’t show how huge the problem really
