In the article “Greenhouse Effect: An Overview,” Micah Issitt, a book writer who translates complex issues for people states, “The Greenhouse effect is a naturally occurring process in which the accumulation of atmospheric gases prevents solar radiation from escaping into space; this radiation then heats the surface of the earth, [modifying temperature and climate].” Greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide are necessary to live because they trap the heat in the earth and without it, earth’s temperature would be much cooler (“EPA”); But recently, the high amount of greenhouse emissions has been affecting our climate and many other things due to overuse of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels, as stated by Merriam Webster, are …show more content…
Fossil fuels, specifically carbon dioxide, are the main cause of greenhouse emissions; using a renewable energy source would prevent the continuous rapid climate change. “Union of Concerned Scientists” is a website where scientific experts join together to provide information for people. The article “Benefits of Renewable Energy Use” states, “Compared with natural gas, which emits between 0.6 and 2 pounds of carbon dioxide equivalent per kilowatt-hour (CO2E/kWh), and coal, which emits between 1.4 and 3.6 pounds…wind emits only 0.02 to 0.04 pounds of CO2E/kWh, solar 0.07 to 0.2…” As one can see, wind does not emit as much carbon dioxide, the main factor in greenhouse emissions, as other energy sources like coal. In turn, earth’s temperature would not increase as rapidly as it does. As stated before, greenhouse gases modify earth’s climate. If people continue to use nonrenewable energy, problems are sure to arise in the future. On the other hand, using wind power would certainly reduce the greenhouse effect because it does not emit as much carbon dioxide as coal or natural gases. The article “Rapid Progression of Ocean Acidification in the California Current System” states, “…certain marine organisms respond sensitively to…CO2- induced reduction in Ph…” The increase in Carbon dioxide would hurt ocean organisms because Carbon Dioxide affects ocean acidification. These animals are ‘sensitive’ to it and it can hurt them. The change of temperature in the water affects them as well because they are accustomed to a certain temperature to survive; changing it would harm sea
