Guantanamo Bay detention camp, is a U.S Military Prison, based in Cuba. The facilities are still open as of today, where in November 2015, there were still 107 detainees still being kept. It was opened in January 2002, as then incumbent President George W Bush, declared the War on Terror post September 11th terrorist attacks. “… the Bush administration declared a worldwide “war on terror,” involving open and covert military operations, new security legislation, efforts to block the financing of terrorism…” (Global Policy Forum, 2005) The prison was set up on a US naval base, near the edge of Cuba, that was argued out of reach from the US law. It has even come to light that juveniles were being held Guantanamo in 2003, to which they “require different treatment under international and American law, in the grounds that their youth makes them less culpable than adults” (Convention on the Rights of the Child, 1989, cited in International Bar Association 2009). US authorities confirmed this, there were children as young as thirteen being held, yet argued in 2004, that no more were being held, however in 2006 when a completed detainee list was publically available, it was found that 19 juveniles were still being held at the detention
