While gun control could possibly stop mentally-challenged people from accessing firearms, gun control should not be allowed because gun control violates the 2nd Amendment, criminals will find a way to get firearms with or without gun control, and civilians have no defense with gun control. There are, of course, many more reason to be against gun control, yet the main reasons are the ones I have listed above. First of all, gun control would be the opposite of the right that the Second Amendment gives to United States civilians. The Second Amendment clearly states that “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." There are many countries with strict gun control that shootings have occurred, such as the incident in Germany where a high school student rampaged and murdered 15 people with a 9mm owned by his father. Just like the Prohibition, I see gun control as a failure. Gangsters smuggled alcohol around the United States during the Prohibition Era and most weren’t caught, so why would criminals be stopped if a gun control laws were in effect? Also, teenagers find ways to gain access to cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, etc., and most teens get away with it. These are all examples as to why gun control would be defective in the United States.
