Intro: Guns on campus has been an area of debate in politics and social media for a long time.
Thesis: Guns on campus will only cause more harm than good and should be banned on all College campus.
Body: The argument is students have the right to defend themselves and it is their 2nd amendment right to bear arms (Burnett).
Support: People do have the right to defend themselves but fact is out of 30,694 gunfire incidents that ended up as a homicide in 2005, only 147 of the those deaths were by justified homicides by private citizens (Dickerson). Also, it is 4.5 times more likely for someone carrying for self-defense to be shot during an altercation than someone that is not carrying (Scoville).

Support: Retired Navy Admiral William McRaven who is known for being a part of the operation to kill Osama Bin Laden is now a university chancellor is in disagreement with the idea of having students carry firearms on campus (Morning Edition 5). The question is why is it that we have an operation specialist that is trained to deploy troops on missions not agreeing with students having weapons on campuses?
I. McRaven expresses how college is already a high stress environment and when adding firearms to the equation the probability of gun incidents are a concern (Morning Edition 5).
Body: The side that argues that guns should be on campus uses school shooting like Virginia Tech shooting as example of how the shooter felt safe planning out his attack because the shooter knew no one was armed on campus and how “Safe zones” are really not safe (Burnett).
Support: If every student acted on an incident with a firearm, how would police officers that responded on the scene, be able to distinguish who the threat is and who is innocent or the Good
