Helicopter parents are those parents who are overly involved in their child’s every action. From sports to music to schoolwork, these parents are with their children every step of the way making sure that the kids don't get hurt. While this might sound great to some people, there are numerous reasons as to why this is a terrible epidemic of a parenting style. To begin, these parents are teaching these kids that they cannot fail; creating generations of fragile people who think that the world may end because someone doesn't have the same ideas as them. Many examples of this are the people who even in their thirties have temper tantrums because their favorite food was pulled off the menu in a restaurant, or the children who scream at other kids because they looked at them. These parents are keeping their children safer while they are in their care and these children are less likely to be hurt.At the same time however, this only keeps the children safe while in the parents care. In reality these children are actually more vulnerable to threats while not in the parents care because they don’t know about these threats or how to deal with them while being coddled and cared for. Another reason why these parents are harming their children is that they are raising a generation of children who cannot care for themselves. These generations of children are extremely dependent on their parents even into their adult years. This is where society gets the adults that need to ask their mothers to make doctors appointments for them or to make them dinner.
