Impaired drivers should have their licenses revoked for a year Everyday in the United States alone, 28 people die in motor vehicle accidents meaning that one person dies every 53 minutes. The amount of impaired driving related accidents is rapidly rising and is not showing a sign of slowing down. It seems that the laws and penalties against impaired drivers are not stopping people from continuing to do so. Drivers who have been caught impaired driving should have their license revoked for a year. This way, we can take the irresponsible drivers off the road; saving lives, repairs, time and money. Implementing this law would save the lives of thousands including both drivers and innocent bystanders. The Association for safe international road travel say that “Nearly 1.3 million people die in road crashes each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day and an additional 20-50 million are injured or disabled.” Over 40% of those are caused by impaired drivers. If the amount of accidents lower, insurance rates will be lower for everyone. “Road crashes cost USD $518 billion globally, costing individual countries from 1-2% of their annual GDP.” says the Association for safe international road travel. Too much money is being spent on these accidents and this law is surely going to save billions of dollars. Another factor is time, lots of workers’ time is being used on fixing up roads while they could be fixing something else. So many lives are killed that according to the ‘Rocky Mountain Insurance Info’ in the United States, nearly 1 trillion dollars have been lost due loss of productivity and lives from motor accidents every year.
