There is more public support of the legalization of marijuana law reform than ever before. Over half of the country is in support of legalizing it. The Drug Policy Alliance (DPA) believe that it should be eliminated from the criminal justice system and should be regulated like tobacco and alcohol. Marijuana has many health benefits to it such as treating many diseases. Not only does marijuana have health benefits, but it would bring in a large amount of money to our country. Medical marijuana has been legalized in 29 states and recreational use is legalized in eight states. Many people disagree that marijuana should be legalized for recreational use because they think it is a gateway drug that could lead people to use other harder drugs. In Colorado, marijuana has brought in around $1.1 billion in legal sales of medical and recreational marijuana. Legalizing marijuana in other states would boost the revenue and could create jobs for more people. If states were now bringing in more money, they would be able to spend it on roads, parks, and new construction in the area. In 2015, Colorado created 18,000 new jobs. By buying from a licensed producer you know and can trust where it’s from and how it was grown. Marijuana product testing is a requirement for marijuana markets. In states that marijuana is legal for recreational use, you have to be 21 years old to buy it. This would cut off illegal drug cartels, which could include terrorists.
