Legalizing Marijuana
Imagine making your shopping list for the weekend and adding
"marijuana" to the shopping list, right next to milk, bread, and butter. You see how weird that sounds adding that to your list. Legalizing marijuana would take the United States into the wrong direction. Furthermore, legalizing marijuana would increase drug addiction, contribute to being unhealthy, and it would send the wrong message to our youth.
First, drug addiction is a major problem in the United States.

Furthermore, marijuana is unhealthy substance. "The active ingredient in marijuana has been linked to memory problems, impaired thinking, and weakened immune systems, not to mention, it acts like a gateway to more dangerous drugs"(Marijuana: Should the United States legalize marijuana?). From using marijuana, you can get both long term and short term mental effects. When you get short term mental effects, they are temporary. Some examples of short term mental effects are mood behavior, trouble breathing and difficulty with memory. Long term effects are things such as brain developmental issues and problems with child development during pregnancy.
Another major concern is the message it would send to our youth if marijuana was to be legalized. Some may say that legalizing marijuana would help lower drug usage with youth and not impact their overall well-being. However, the facts tell you something very different. For instance, "A recent study just published reported that teenagers who smoke marijuana daily are 60 percent less likely to complete high school"
