For example, when the littluns start to become scared of their dreams and the “beast”, Jack said, “The thing is fear can’t hurt you any more than a dream. There aren’t any beasts to be afraid of on this island. It’d serve you right if something did get you, you useless lot of cry-babies!” (Golding 83.) Jack could’ve easily handled the situation a lot better but instead he chose to hurt the feelings of the littluns and scare them even more. Another example is when Piggy lashes out at Jack saying, “You and your blood, Jack Merridew! You and your hunting! We might’ve gone home-” (Golding 70).
