The needle exchange has a good intentions but is obvious that it would not help solve any problem. The needle exchange program lets social workers give sterile needles to drug users for little to no cost at all. Majority of the time, obtaining a needle in this program is free for the drug abuser. The goal of this is to prevent the sharing of needles which can lead to a multitude of diseases. The main disease to on the programs list is to stop HIV and AIDS. Once again this is a good cause, but a horrible way to go about the prevention of HIV and AIDs. Giving free needles to drug addicts is like giving a free gun to PTSD war veterans to protect themselves from anything that might scare them. There is no doubt in understanding where that can lead. Giving needles to drug addicts only increases the use of drugs and those same needles might become part of the circulation of dirty needles also. The needle exchange program must not continue and a different way must used to stop the spread of HIV and AIDS or any other diseases. Drug addicts are people who need help and look to drugs as an answer. The nation needs to help these people rid this issue of drug abuse and not advance the issue even more by giving these individuals the tools they need to continue this monstrosity of a habit. Giving addicts needles can ruin the progress of quitting because it would seem like positive reinforcement. As if the government is saying, “just in case you consider using drugs again, here's a fresh new starter kit”. Well being of these poor people will diminish when they start using methamphetamines or any other drug. Especially when the needle exchange program provides the resources to start or continue using intravenous drugs. But not only does it prevent well being, it also can start a new rise of intravenous drug
