Imagine the thrill of hosting the Olympics in your home town! You would see athletes on the streets around you and see different cultures from around the world. Now imagine major debt, riots, and rubble. Hosting the 2020 Olympics in Athens, Georgia would be a dream come true for many individuals, but overall this would have major consequences on the country itself. Some of these consequences are loss of money, crowd control, and abandoned buildings. If Athens, Georgia, held the 2020 Olympics the city would be left with nothing but a huge amount of debt. Scope mentioned, “[...] those expenses could do us more harm than good” and “host cities go in debt[...]” (Scope 2). This means that to host the Olympic games, Athens would use more money than it could make, leaving this once beautiful city high and dry, unable to pay for anything important such as renovating schools or hospitals.
