While religiously speaking it would be considered “suicide” and the Bible does not condone such actions, Physician-assisted suicide (PAS) should be legal due to its beneficial attributes to those competent enough with an incurable disease to choose this means of treatment. There has been much controversy on the subject at hand about PAS being legal nationwide due to its views of going against the biblical notion on suicide, it's getting mixed up with the term “euthanasia”, and many believe it would alter the medical professional's role in society. PAS provides a means to an end to a person's suffering who has no other options but to wait for natural death. When in such a situation, it is not always pleasant and often the patient is in constant excruciating pain or discomfort. Euthanasia is a term many believe is interchangeable with PAS; it is not. Euthanasia is when the doctor acknowledges the pain that a patient is in and soulfully decides to end the patient's life. This often takes place in medical establishments that do not have PAS as a legal treatment. Using powerful drugs, doctors end the life of a suffering, dying patient. Illegal, but happens all the time, discreetly, in the interest of compassion. With PAS and euthanasia being mistaken to be the same thing many believe that PAS should not be legal because they say that medical professionals will take it into their own hands to decide whether a patient should be euthanized or not. This is not the case. There are numerous rules and regulations when it comes to PAS as a treatment and the number one rule is that doctors are not to recommend it.
