As Christians we are obligated to follow what Christ says in both Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture. God tells us that every person is obligated to value the dignity of the human person and to protect it. “God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27). The question arises, “Why do I need to be pro-life, why me, why now?” The human person has dignity, a right to life, because they were made in the likeness and image of God. Therefore as humans, we have an obligation to defend that dignity for others who cannot speak for themselves. We, as a human community can start now to defend life from the moment of conception to natural death. God tells us“You shall not murder”(Exodus 20:13). Every time a human is murdered, it reduces the respect that each person has. We have to act out in defiance to the laws that legalized abortion. Unethical embryonic stem cell research, illegally selling body parts of a fetus, abortion, euthanasia; the list goes on forever. Are we to stand on the sidelines and watch the underdog battle for life? Should we defy today’s society to join in the fight to show our respect for life? If we don’t speak up for these issues, then what does it make us as a person? What does it make us as believers of Christ? God did not put humans on Earth for means of exploitation, he put them for a purpose and meaning: to give glory to him through our actions, thoughts and speech.
