A teenage girl who had unprotected sex one time but now can’t ever get a decent education.
A rape victim who sees her attacker every time she looks at her child.
A widower who is alone without his wife because she died due to birth complications.
These are just three circumstances that abortion can prevent.
Some people may think that Pro Life vs Pro Choice means abortion vs no abortion. Surely, if that was the option, most people would agree with no abortion, right? Back then women would eat poisonous herbs, use sharp implements, lift heavy weights and use other techniques to terminate the pregnancy. This didn’t change, even in the UK, until 60 years ago. In the 1950’s women resorted to using coat hangers and other sharp household objects despite the potential danger that came with it. Some women would even throw themselves down the stairs or sit in dangerously hot water. In 1967 abortion became legal in the UK to prevent women from harming themselves in order to stop the pregnancy. Many pro-life supporters take part in protests in the hope of banning abortion once again. They believe that if it is once again made illegal, induced abortion will not happen. This is unlikely, though, because women used heinous methods to induce abortion all those years ago so what would be different now?
Many religions have strong views on abortion. Christians, Catholics and Hindus usually agree that abortion is a form of ‘murder’ and that it is immoral and wrong whereas Buddhists, Protestants and Jews disagree with this statement.
