Do you have an ancestor who came to the United States as an immigrant? Where did they come from? What was their story? Now imagine what would have happened if America had not let them in. Would they have had the opportunities they did? Would they even have survived? What about you? Would you be reading this today? You probably would not have even been born. Your ancestor’s hardships may have happened a long time ago, but the struggles they faced are very real today. Ever since Syrians began fighting for their independence, it has been hard to walk throughout Syria without stepping on a landmine or being bombed by the power hungry government. Consequently, millions of refugees are risking everything to flee Syria, in hope of a safer, better life. 4.8 million are still in need of a home. That’s 4,800,000 Syrian refugees, many of whom are talented, peace-seeking, and will even help our economy. They are people, just like you and me, who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. As we witness this horrible crisis, the “Land of Opportunity” is put to the test. We have enough resources, and we have a history to learn from. The United States needs to let refugees into our country.

There are millions of homeless refugees out there, and no one country can help them alone. This crisis has escalated to a global scale - It is a global problem. Many countries look up to America, as a very advanced nation. We need to show them that letting refugees in is the right thing to do. We can set an example for other countries. We just have to do it now. Lebanon has taken in 1.5 million refugees so far, and Turkey has taken in over 2.7 million! These countries cannot afford to take in many more refugees, but America can, and we
