Climate change is becoming increasingly prevalent in recent times due to events around the world which are shaping how the future will affect our children’s and grandchildren’s lives. In Jeffrey Sach’s speech to the T20 Summit Global Solutions, he outlines why our political leaders will not be the driving force in implementing renewable energy in our society, and instead those who are concerned in doing so, such as the scientists at the speech, must be the force to increase popularity of renewable energies. Jeffrey Sachs repeatedly focused on Donald Trump, the United States president, and his government in explaining why politicians will not support renewable energy, “...represents a super elite group of people that don’t give a damn.” Donald Trump is not focusing on renewable energy because the oil industry, which is one of the largest economical industries in the world, is influencing him to protect the industry to safeguard their profits from being lost to renewable energy sources. The political atmosphere in the U.S is mostly corrupt in such a way, with politicians listening to the economical elite instead of voters, to keep the oil and other industries happy.
