Do you have a dog that looks nothing like it’s wolf ancestors? Well, they look that way because of selective breeding. Selective breeding is very well seen in bulldogs, because we made them look the way they do. This selective breeding could be detrimental to the bulldog’s health and may lead to many medical complications. First, they have very flat faces which makes it significantly harder for them to breath. Next, they have an underbite that causes teeth problems. Finally, the shape of their bodies make the susceptible to joint pain. We should change dog breeding standards so that breeds like the bulldog, can have happier healthier lives.

Kristen Theisen shows this when she said, “ A massive, undershot jaw that leads to teeth problems.” What she says shows us that our selective breeding regulations have given bulldogs an underbite which can lead to health complications, more specifically teeth problems. We should change breeding standards for bulldogs to make them have a more normal jaw, to prevent their health problems.
Finally, the bulldog has a body they makes them prone to joint pain for their entire lives. Kristen Theisen shows this when she was talking about the bulldogs body, and that bulldogs have, “Stubby legs prone to painful joint conditions.” Theisen is telling that due to our selective breeding, the bulldog has stubby legs which make them have excruciating joint pain. I think that breeding standards for bulldogs should change to make them have longer legs for more support and less joint pain.
We should change breeding regulations for bulldogs so they can live happier and healthier lives. Some of the health complications from the breeding regulations are; flat faces, that lead to breathing problems, an undershot jaw that leads to teeth problems, and stubby legs that lead to joint pain. We can learn that bulldogs have many health complications due to our selective breeding. Bulldogs can stop suffering from all these medical problems, and the only way to do that is to change breeding
