Today, American society is on brink of building self-driving cars that will alter the way transportation is used around the world. The recent creation of the self-driving car is an advancement that stems from the work of engineers such as Ray Kurzweil and Elon Musk in the self-driving car business. Elon Musk said, "I think [autonomous driving]'s just going to become normal. Like an elevator. The new Google car’s are 100% electric have sensors that scan 360 degrees around the vehicle, detecting objects in close proximity. The use of 360 degree sensors can be used as extra tool of observation for distracted drivers and will reduce the amount of accidents if used properly as it measures the speed of the vehicle. Additionally, the use of electric cars will promote an eco-friendly attitude towards the creation of cars by instilling an expectation by consumers that requires all cars to be electric (Marsico 9). The creation of useful gadgets unique to the self-driving car will revolutionize the expectations and safety of cars as a means of transportation. Google has announced collaboration between Tesla and Nissan that will focus on improving the safety features of self-driving cars in the near future. It has a screen that shows the route that the car is taking. The car also has wheel sensors which detect the car's location and other cars location. There is also a radar that measures the speed of the vehicle. The car can also be controlled through your phone (Marsico 12). In the near future Google has stated that they will not be making the cars by themselves and that they would have assistance from either Nissan or Tesla. The self-driving car would revolutionize the way we park. For instance, once the self-driving car is implicated to common day use, we will not need as much space. As the self-driving cars …show more content…
For instance it would probably cause the end of car insurance. The reduction of accidents would cause customers to feel safe and not use car insurance. Some experts predict that car insurance would stay the same and not be affected by the self-driving car (Laskoski 1). This is supported by the fact that some customers don’t want to take a high risk in getting in an accident because the price of repairing the car would be too much for some. If some accidents do happen the cost repair could be estimated to up as 75000$. When crashes occur we might need a lot of lawyers to tell us who’s responsible. For instance, if a car accident occurs, and the customer sues the car maker. Who takes this blame for the accident, is it the car maker or the owner of the car. This is what some experts say could happen (Laskoski 1). Other experts also say that new laws need old lawyers and old lobbyists to push them through. Self-driving cars could affect law cases as some would plead against the passenger who has no effect on the cars
