The Syrian Civil war began on March 11th, 2011 and has become a prevalent topic in today’s news. It began with the Arab Spring Protests, demonstrations against President Bashar-al Assad’s way of ruling the government. In the beginning, Syria was receiving support from Russia, Iran and Iraq. Now, the U.S, Russia and most of the Middle East are helping the war, but taking different sides. However, the silent supporters are the European countries that are currently taking in Syrian Refugees. There is an estimated four million Syrian Refugees who have fled their homes to escape the war. Over one million of those have escaped to Europe. They face brutal environments that are forcing many into begging and child labor to afford basic necessities. …show more content…
More than half of the Syrian refugees are children under the age of 18. More than 50% of those children have lost everything including their family, schooling and friends. (“What You Need To Know”) One of the most controversial pictures from the Syrian Civil War was the picture of Aylan, a small Syrian boy who washed ashore on Turkey’s land after trying to escape the war with his family. These children are susceptible to malnourishment, dangerous labor work and lack of education. While there is not one specific solution to the problem, there are a few solutions that would increase the ease of the transition of the movement of refugees. Finding a better solution to the migration of refugees is an important problem that cannot be overlooked. Thousands of Syrians are dying during their escape to a safer land. Having a designated safe route to refugee camps would increase the safety and ease of the movement of these refugees. Increasing the amount of refugee camps in nearby, safer countries would decrease the stress put on the European countries who have to sort through tens of thousands of asylum applications. While the screening process is long, having a safe place for these refugees to stay while their application is being processed is necessary. There are already huge camps set up inside Turkey and Jordan. Adding more of these camps, which have become functioning cities, would increase the likelihood of a better like for these refugees; whether they are waiting out the war, or searching for a new stable residency in another
