Help Refugees, Help Themselves The war in Syria, I believe, is undermined by the American people. I believe that we can't grasp or truly understand what's happening overseas and how the civil war isn’t affecting just Syria but several other countries. A hot topic about Syria is the vast amount of refugees fleeing their homeland to seek safe refuge from the ongoing civil war. We are currently witnessing the largest refugee shock of our era, surpassing the amount of refugees after World War II. There's already a global refugee policy, where when a relationship between a state and its citizens is raptured, then another state or international community is placed confidence into to take in citizens seeking protection. So lets put forth a new policy where the refugees could help themselves and the countries taking them in. A needed policy that serves both economic and safety issues for the states taking in Syrian refugees, but also benefits the lives of the Syrian people and their lives once the civil war is over. Due to the amount of refugees fleeing Syria, which is an estimated ten million displaced people, that neighboring states Jordan, and Lebanon have closed their borders. The United Nations (UN) has asked the countries to leave their borders open but the leaders are against the idea due to the threats it makes towards their economies that are already being stretched. Jordan has a unparalleled past with helping refugees with little international assistance. Jordanians have made some efforts to assist by placing economic zones (SEZs). The largest refugee camp Zoatar, is ten miles from an industrial zone in eastern Mafraq. The idea with the new policy is to bring financial incentives, trade concessions,
