Teens and Drinking Senator, Judith Freedman once stated “Underage drinking is not only illegal, it is dangerous, and it is up to the adults to do the right thing by not allowing their property to be used for teen parties.” We all need to put a halt to our teen society from drinking, which will benefit the adolescents in the long run. When underage drinkers cannot control their drinking as well as legalized drinkers can it usually follows the stages of: academic failure, traffic crashes, and medical problems. Drinking at an early age can risk harm in various ways. One way it can risk lives is by not having a positive outcome in education. As once said, “Heavy alcohol use, detracts from the time that young people could spend studying, completing homework, or receiving help from teachers”(Adams 65). Getting an education helps everyone achieve obstacles you have in life, and with alcohol in the way it can surely have you devastated. “Teen drivers are three times more likely than more experienced drivers to be in a fatal crash. Drinking any alcohol greatly increases this risk for teens” (Torr 51). Teens are shown to be curious by nature and prone to peer pressure by drinking. They take the risk to seem “invincible”, until a tragedy happens. Drinking and driving usually has friends or most likely family, in danger. It’s sad to hear that one of the community’s favorites has passed away because she was with friends who just so happened to have been drinking, and the driver did not slow down on a sharp curve, therefore had many injured, and one killed tragically. When going to a party, and there is alcohol that is going to be available, know the right thing to do, and do not drink also try to always be the designated driver to make sure keeping everyone safe is the first option in your
