What is the Issue? Texting and driving is an increasingly prevalent issue in our society today thanks to the rise of modern technology. It’s a very unique issue; it is relatively new but has already been claimed to be the top cause of death for teenage drivers, a study from the Cohen Children's Medical Center claims. Too many people are paying more attention on their phones on the road than driving. This issue affects every single country with technology, although certain countries and regions may be more prone to texting and driving or have stricter laws regarding the issue. While teenagers are most likely to text and drive because they are more attached to technology, adults can still text and drive as well. 40% of teenagers say they have been in a car with a person who used their phones while driving on the road. Car accidents caused by texting and driving cause billions of dollars yearly. These statistics are very shocking and reveals the scope and magnitude of this issue. Too many people are falling victim to this issue despite its severity and danger. Intervention The fight against texting and driving has been carried out by several groups and sectors. Governments around the world have taken the most action on this issue, taking a more disciplinary approach. They have imposed strict laws and punishment against those who text and drive. If convicted of texting and driving in Canada, you may face fines and three demerit points. If you endanger other people while texting and driving, you may face six demerit points, a license suspension, and/or severe jail time. However, it is difficult to enforce these laws as the majority of people who text and drive have their phones hidden and that too many people text and drive to begin with. Additional intervention is
