Over the last couple of decades teens have become more and more irresponsible. Whether it is texting and driving or just the peer pressure of their everyday lives, teens are out there making decisions that could affect their life drastically. Teens brains are still developing and it could be life threatening if teens give into peer pressure. Teens today are very irresponsible and rarely think of the consequences that come with poor choices.
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens in the U.S. Approximately 243,243 teens were treated in the emergency departments for injuries in vehicle crashes. That means on average six teens die everyday as a result of a motor vehicle crash. An American Psychological Association Survey showed that teens have a better chance of having problems focusing because of stress than adults. Studies have shown that 75% of fatal teen driver crashes are due to texting and driving or driving too fast for road conditions. According to Driver's Ed Guru about 99% of teens text and drive. That means smoking, drinking, doing drugs, etc. will hurt your brain in ways that are irreversible. Yes, even after 25 participating in those activities could still hurt your brain but you are three times more likely to have brain disabilities if you start under the age of 25. Drinking before fully developing your brain has been known to cause damage to your frontal lobes forever. Alcohol also has an effect on your Medulla. The Medulla is supposed to control the body’s automatic actions, such as a person’s heartbeat and keep your body at the right temperature, but when you are under the influence these functions could be rendered useless.
