3000 teens and young adults die in car crashes each year due to texting and driving. Driving and cell phone use is dangerous, Countless studies and facts back this up, yet people continue to text and drive. People don’t have to drive while texting. If drivers put down their phones and put their eyes on the road could these tragedies be prevented? STOP IT! Texting and driving is dangerous because it distract drivers and causes death, injury, and in some cases, is against the law.
According to the New England Journal of Medicine people ages 15 - 20 makeup 6.4% of all drivers, but they are responsible for 10% of all vehicle deaths are due to distracted driving, and 14% of all accidents not resulting in death, due to distracted driving. 6.4% of the population make up 10% of all vehicle deaths - 40,000 vehicles deaths in the US last year, 10% of that is 4,000. 4,000 people died because teenagers were

This is why many states have laws against texting and driving. The Governors Highway State Associations reports the following data;
“Hand-held cell phones use: 15 states, D.C, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin islands prohibit all drivers from using hand-held cell phones while driving. All are primary enforcement laws - an office may cite a driver for using a hand-held cell phone without any other traffic offense taking place. No state bans all cell phone use for all drivers, but 38 states and D.C. ban all cell phone use by novice drives, and 20 states and D.C. prohibit it for school bus drivers. Washington was the first state to pass a texting ban. Currently 47 states ban text messaging for all drivers. Of the 3 states without an all driver texting ban, 2 prohibit text messaging for novice drivers.
