Texting While Driving Anyone who has watched television for more than five minutes in the last few years has more than likely seen either seen a commercial that shows the consequences of texting while driving or has seen the news where a person lost their life because of a text message that they believed could not wait. Texting while driving is not something that should be done under most circumstances, as a person should be giving their full attention and focus to the road in front of them, not the phone in their hand. Texting should not ever be the main priority in a person’s life and there are a number of instances where the person should put their phone down and wait a bit before sending a text out. One of the biggest problems with the technological advances that are being made is that it is turning people who used to be thoughtful and caring about the world around them into zombies. (Espejo 1) Just with that example there are many people who are so involved in texting others that they forget there is a world outside their phone and sometimes their forgetfulness can cost them their lives. One would think texting while driving applies to all drivers, even ones that do so professionally, but it isn't so. "[T]he 2008 Chatsworth train collision, in which 25 people died and more than 100 were injured, was officially attributed to the engineer of the Metrolink commuter train being distracted by text messaging." (Espejo 2) When you are constantly staring into a phone, you are bound to miss out on the little things in life. Texting while driving does not encourage a person to care about their surroundings and causes a sense of detachment from the world around them. Sitting around waiting for a text message is not a productive way to
