Driving down the street, then all of a sudden a ping sounds throughout the car. Looking down to check the message, eyes are drawn off of the road. Without eyes the car hits another car killing the innocent occupant. Was that text worth a life? The world today is dependent on cellular devices, that even includes being attached to a phone while driving a car. Should someone be able to text while one is driving? Texting while driving is really bad and has killed many people in the world, so why is it still legal? Truthfully though laws are amazing in theory, but not everyone will follow them. Texting should be banned by the government because a law, because without one it can only go down hill. The laws concerning texting while driving are different for every state. Americans today should not have the right to engage in such an act that can harm or put others in danger. People who text or speak on the phone while driving to “will actually miss a lot of things that are in their visual periphery,” David Meyer, a psychology professor at the University of Michigan, told National Public Radio (“Texting While Driving”). In addition, cars today have obtained touch screens and internet access while driving. In this case it also uses the luxury of voice commands. Certainly one can see this is a scary “computerized death machine” (Dowd). “Studies show that drivers who talk on cellphones are four times more likely to be in a crash and drive just as erratically as people with an 0.08 percent blood-alcohol level” (Dowd). Talking on the phone while driving is okay in society, when it comes to driving while intoxicated it is not right, but it has the same percentage of resulting in a car
