Many sports programs give every child a trophy after the season comes to an end ;however, that is not needed. If one team does better than another, they should get to feel special by being rewarded in a way that lets them know that they’ve accomplished something that is more significant than their competition with a trophy . Most children who get awarded with participation trophies hear the few words “You are all winners,“ but in life that is not always true. Everyone loses in life, and nobody is perfect. Many other reasons show that everyone should not be awarded if they did not win. Adolescents do not need trophies to make them feel good about themselves, and they need to learn self control for when they lose in the future; also nobody would ever feel accomplished if the team that won got the same trophy as the team that lost. For example, if all teams get the same trophy, the first place team will not feel accomplished or that they did any better. Children will not learn what it is like to lose, which is a skill needed in life. For example, if you don’t get the job you wanted, you need to learn how to calmly take the situation. They will feel upset and think they did bad. A major life skill is being able to learn that it is okay to lose in order to help them get better. For example, once the child gets older and plays sports competitively, and they are losing a game, they might start pushing or shoving because they are mad or frustrated. This shows how being a poor sport can affect a child. Also, if a child doesn’t get awarded they might quit the sport because they may feel unimportant or unwanted.
