“Pop!” The cap of a skinny, translucent bottle projectiles towards the floor. This fizzing liquid swishes around the bottle, as it shudders back and forth. A trembling hand grasps the bottle by the neck… The liquid inside has a priceless effect on its consumers; it causes them to forget about the troubles of everyday life and the stress that crashes over them day and night. But what many have also forgotten is how drinking is a serious problem and there are many consequences that come with just one bottle. Every year, thousands of people drink alcohol, despite of all the health problems and all the negative impacts it has on a person's life. For example, according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIH), about 33% of teens have drank an alcoholic drink by the age of 15 (Underage Drinking, section 3). This shows that adults who drink have a huge influence on teens. In addition, underage drinking also negatively impacts a teen's still developing brain (Pasturel, paragraph 3). This illustrates how drinking impacts these innocent children and how it slowly tears their brains to shreds. For example, there are about 17 different countries that have prohibited the use of alcohol. This shows how the US is fearful of banning alcohol due to the fact that citizens may rebel. In 1920, alcohol consumption went from being legal to completely prohibited. Unfortunately, this era only lasted for 13 years, as the prohibition was revoked in 1933 (Prohibition, paragraph 8).
