Warm, cozy thoughts come to mind when thinking of Disney. Some of the first things thought of are Disney movies, princes, princesses, Mickey, Minnie, childhood, and many other loved characters. It was founded in 1923 by Walter Disney (Mason). Thousands upon thousands of kids everywhere have enjoyed Disney’s movies for years. Although, what are they really watching? Is Disney the child friendly company everyone thinks? Yes, it is true many good things are taught to young children through Disney, but there are more subtle things that kids pick up on, things that adults may not even notice. These more subtle things are often the most prominently shown in children. Therefore, Disney needs to make a few changes. First of all, take a look at all of Disney’s princes and princesses. They are gorgeous. All the princes have a perfectly masculine figure. All the princesses are skinny and curvy. This makes kids think that they need to look like this, that the perfect man or woman should look like this. For girls, it is physically impossible to achieve such a figure (Castillo). Studies have found that between 38% - 55% of the compliments toward princesses are appearance based in Disney’s movies (Cox). …show more content…

Yes, Disney is racist. Again, this goes back to the characters of Disney movies. The crows in Dumbo are portrayed as African- American. It is made evident in the fact that the leader of the crows name is Jim Crow. Whats worse is that they act dumb, annoying, and lazy in the movie ("Top 10 Ways Disney Corrupts Children."). The Siamese cats in Lady and the Tramp have slanted eyes and act villainous/sneaky (Young). Kids are watching these movies all the time. They begin to associate these characteristics with certain races. The world does not need these ideals in future generations. Ideals like that are what lead to controversies and wars. Problems that this world does not need any more
