Tackle Football is Bad For Children
Hello, I am Dominic Malinski. I currently play football for our high school, playing center, which is on the offensive line, a position that contains a lot of contacts. I haven’t played for a longest time, however; for our midget football league, children can start playing at the age of 4-6 years old. As stated before the offensive line is a group of positions that entail a lot of contacts, especially to the head. Today I will be talking about why I think tackle football should be prohibited for children under the age of 14. In my short time of playing, I’ve experienced some injuries, including concussions, and I’ve seen even more injuries, including

The answer should be no. In fact, children between the ages of 6 and 14 have suffered 15 times more head impacts than players at other ages. A lot of people make arguments about helmets and how to improve them. Dr. Feeley of UCFS says “It doesn’t help prevent concussions A helmet doesn't lower your risk of a concussion, even if you have a more fancy helmet," the improvements that come with new helmets only lower the frequency of concussions, not stop them. After some research, parents state that football teaches their children discipline and mental toughness, but giving your child brain damage doesn’t make them mentally tough. In fact, parenting, great sponsors, and people look up to create discipline and mental toughness and make their child as strong as an ox. Now I am not saying that tackle football needs to be gone altogether, flag football can be a very smart and more efficient way for children to play the sport they love, I love football and don’t want to harm it in any way. Flag football has been proven to help with Having a strategy, Being disciplined, working with a team, using proper technique, and Having fun. This is a safer way for children to play football and still …show more content…
He even mentions not letting his own son play football until a good age. You have to imagine the amount of love for the game that Mr. Favre has had to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Just like concussions CTE or Chronic traumatic encephalopathy has the same effects on a person just like a concussion, but it isn’t well known. For starters it cannot be detected by MRI or any type of medical device, the only real way you know that someone has CTE is after they die. Nobody wants that and especially children shouldn’t have to live with the fear that they have a permanent concussion and not be able to get the help they need. CTE is caused by smaller, more impactful hits that cause the head to be snapped back as shown here (Video from Youtube). That kind of collision could cause the brain to have just as much damage as a concussion. There are even more videos of children having big hits during games and it’s wrong because it’s dangerous and doesn’t show proper technique, and parents who view the children as smart and trusted individuals condone and even encourage it to the children. It’s disgusting. To sum up, everything that has been stated, children under the age of 14 who play tackle football are more likely to have brain damage, CTE, and
