Many people watch the Activia commercials and assume that if they incorporate more yogurt in their diets, they'll feel healthier and have better digestive health due to the live cultures in yogurt that help keep the body running smoothly. Yogurt in general is toted as a great way to maintain a healthy digestive system, and is a great source of calcium and protein besides. But before you choose to add yogurt to your daily diet for whatever reasons (I chose yogurt to get more calcium in my diet) be warned that your body may appear to rebel against you at first. Yogurt is no exception- in fact, yogurt on a sensitive stomach tends to have major effects on the body, including severe cramping, diarrhea, nausea, upset stomach (it feels like sour stomach), bloating, and gas. Yikes! After doing research, I found that many people have adverse reactions to adding yogurt to their diets, particularly if they are using yogurt as a meal source, say, lunch or breakfast, along with other light foods to maintain healthy weight or achieve that digestive health. The reason for this is assumed to be caused by the live cultures in yogurt (probiotics) that can cause undesirable effects as bacteria is flushed out of the body. Some people get diarrhea and other nasty side effects from yogurt in general due to being sensitive to milk products- others because the body's natural defense to flushing out bacteria is to have more frequent bowel movements, and since yogurt aids in getting rid of bacteria in the body, then diarrhea may be a result. Every individual is different- some people eat yogurt with no side effects at all, others (like me) have a negative effect that lessens as the yogurt use is continued for their
