Every year youth sports are exposed as something for our children not to participate in. The evening news stations broadcast parents fighting other parents, referees, coaches and even other children (Violence and Bad Parenting in Youth Sports). Too much emphasis has now been misplaced on winning at all costs…literally. The set up and management of youth sports has become costly monetarily. Therefore, because of the financial involvement, youth sports has gone from being fun to almost a stepping stone into the professional end of any particular sport. Because of this turn of events, our youth sports program has begun an initiative to educate our parents in order to cope with as well as manage issues that might arise. Our youth sports program desires to alleviate as well as eliminate bullying, cursing, pushing, shoving and fighting so that our children will learn to appreciate the chosen sport and the life skills it teaches. In addition, you as a parent will teach your child the most positive aspects of sports’ participation. It goes without saying, you the parent plays an important role in sport development. Upon our coaching staffs’ observations through real time and film studies, we have discovered that your involvement has a lot to do with your child’s loss of enthusiasm. For example, it was necessary for us to intervene by modifying the learning environment to re-ignite her interest in the sport. This was done by none pressure type drills in order to continue conditioning, enhancing her ability to excel, counseling to assist in coping with game day stress as well as parent and team stress.
