Vince Lombardi said it best “if you accept losing, you can’t win”. Handing out participation trophies has a negative effect on them and shows that they accept losing. It gives the kid the wrong kind of praise and undermines the success of the children, then they begin to believe they should be rewarded for insignificant tasks. Giving kid’s participation awards don’t benefit those who receive them.
It gives the child the wrong kind of commendation when they receive the awards. Today kids in youth sports will acquire awards from any place first, last, and between. This sets an example for them getting that last place is satisfactory. They lose the competitive edge over time, if we continue to carry this on, they will drop the love of sports and only want a trophy. Formerly the success is gonna be threatened since the kids will always be a winner and never learn to properly deal with adversity. Nevertheless, people will say that giving them all this confidence building will help them succeed. On the contrary, this is the opposite too much praise and kids may just start cheating themselves so they don’t feel failure. They begin to chase the relaxed way and not to improve themselves.
Kids will need to be rewarded for unimportant tasks, and then and there this will build up blatant disregard, also negligence. Children that receive these awards for showing up is tantamount to child abuse as it does not teach kids about the real world, and promotes a warped sense of their own self-importance
They will believe that they need rewards for minor and simple tasks, this will make them believe they are above everybody else. This creates tension with other people afterward in life. In this case, it makes kids believe they are superior and cannot fail. This is beyond the truth, everybody fails once and awhile. When the time comes and when they fail they will not be able to handle it appropriately. Failing and having feelings, damaged will actually help them in the long run of
