The Death Penalty has been around for over a hundred years, it’s a very harsh punishment for the guilty. The death penalty has cost our justice system a lot of money over the years. It goes against our human right bill, and it sometimes kills people that has not committed a crime. They say that the death penalty is supposed to stop murders from committing the crime but facts show that it doesn’t. According to “Death penalty Center, 80% of experts rejected the notion that the death penalty acts as a deterrent to murder. (M. Radelet & T. Lacock.) And according to the deathpenalty.org, without the death penalty we have lower crime rates. The South accounts for 80% of US executions and has the most regional murder rate. (D.Cooper). the death penalty has not slowed down the murder rate down in U.S. The Death Penalty cost more than life in prison. According to death.rdsecure.org (E. Goss), California has spent over 3 billion dollars on death row since 1978. According to deathpenaltycurriculum.org, since 1973, at least 130 people have been released from death row after the have found more evidence on the defendant. The issue with death penalty is that innocent people are killed. The system doesn’t always have enough evidence. Journalism students in Illinois were assigned to investigate the case of a man who was supposed to be executed but, after the system of appeals had rejected his legal claims. The students had found out that one of the witness had told a lie at the first trial, and then they found out who actually committed the crime.
