Human Trafficking: Answering questions to analyze the topic How would you feel to have your life stolen from you, not by death but by not being able to live, being a slave to the most evil people on the planet. 27.6 million seems like a big number, but once you put faces on each individual you realize how bad this really is. Many people across the globe have experience, and have been affected by human trafficking at alarming rates. How humans are trafficked is what you would think it is, it’s done by large gangs, warlords, and drug smugglers. To them it’s just something to make profit on top of supplying illegal drugs. The trade of money for people, it is modern day slavery. According to a Gale, “Human trafficking is forcing, coercing, or tricking people into being transported within or to another country for purposes of exploitation.” (Gale 1) They’re caught or forced into human trafficking by kidnapping, baiting, threats, family safety, war and economic issues. To the people being subjected to this it is life changing, would you sacrifice yourself to protect your family? And would you subject yourself to this system to live instead of dying in war? There are lots of reasons why people are subjected and forced into this system and overall it's all from evil reasons that they can’t control. The most common areas where human trafficking occurs is in Africa where they are subjugated to internal war, and lots of smugglers trying to make money to survive. And according to Gale, most of the victims come from the eastern hemisphere and brought to the western hemisphere, “...in the US 15,000 to 50,000 are trafficked a year…” (Gale 3) compared to the international average of an “…estimated 600,000 to 800,000 men, women, and children.”(Gale 3) The western hemisphere receives one of the largest numbers of humans trafficked but only has a fraction of the people trafficked from their own country which means they’re the ones buying. This information goes to show that the amount of people in the eastern hemisphere that are taken is significantly higher than in the west and it shows that it involves the lack of development in these countries and awareness. In the US we have multiple agencies that provide us with protection and support in the illegal trade. This is why underdeveloped countries are more susceptible to the trade, they aren’t
