Why would zoos kill the healthy animals? The zoos who kill the endangered animals has an issue for their gene population and can’t control their population. Most zoos rather kill animals then to take care of the animals, instead of giving them new medications or have new technology to help the animals populations. Although killing a healthy animal for over gene population could help the animals population and to manage of “surplus” animals, exotic animals in the zoos should not be considered to be killed because there are too many endangered animals and there are method to control. Some people believe zoo animals should be put down to control illness and overpopulation. Jacalyn Beales highlights, “Zoo animals are typically killed for two reasons: to control the population and manage ‘surplus animals,’ or to maintain genetic strength and diversity within a captive breeding program”(Death at a Zoo). In which the zoos can control and to kill the animals to maintain the population and can’t harm the other animals. Jacalyn Beales quoted from Marc Bekoff’s book, “There simply is no reason to kill any animals, members of endangered species or not, in zoos unless she/he is mortally ill or injured” (Death at a Zoo).Unless an animal is suffering from injury or illness, there is no excuse to kill it; however, …..“Chimps take human birth control pills, giraffes are served hormones in their feed, and grizzly bears have slow-releasing hormones implanted in their forelegs. Even small rodents are included “(Kaufman). Instead of killing the animals, the zoo tries to bring new supplies that won't harm the animals or try to kill the animal and to control the animal population. While there are many methods to not kill animals; the animal right want to control the population in a new type of
