Dear Valerie Longhurst: My name is LaTisha S. Bell and I reside at 123 ABC Street in Wilmington, Delaware. I am writing to you to address the issue of bottled water. Americans buy 29 billion bottles of water every year (Soechtig & Lindsey, 2009). Bottled water is made in plants that can have chemical compounds that are harmful (Soechtig & Lindsey, 2009). Bottled water was made to make us believe that we were getting better water; water that comes from the purest mountains and streams. Bottled water was one of the most profitable businesses in 2007 it was an 11.5 billion dollar business (Soechtig & Lindsey, 2009). We use approximately 18 million barrels of oil to transport water (Soechtig & Lindsey, 2009). Bottled water is the most ecological destructions in the environment, if we can eliminate plastic packaging our environment would be better off. Bottled water cost billions more to transport and produce than tap water. It is also unsafe because of the chemicals released from the plastic. Tap water is safe to drink because it is federally regulated. Bottled water plays a vital role in the environment. There are millions if not billions of plastic in the ocean affecting the ecosystem and foods that we consume (Soechtig & Lindsey, 2009). Bottled water takes 1,000 years to bio-degrade and when they are they could produce toxic fumes especially if left in landfills (The Water Project, 2015). Only 1 out of 5 bottles are recycled, takes 3 liters of water to fill one bottle of water (The Water Project,
