Introduction
Before Pearl Harbor was attacked by Empire Japan, the United States had problems which could not be solved. Basically, Japan’s natural sources were very poor, so they had to import energies such as coals, oil, or rare metals from other countries. China was a large area in comparison the rest of countries over the world, and this country had a plenty of energy. For this reason, Japan’s ambition was to expand to China to solve energy problems, so this country declared the war on China to take over the Chinese import market. But the United States did not support Japan’s action. The United States decided to embargo Japanese economic sections to prevent war between Japan and China. Before he wanted to go to war with Japan, he expressed that Japan used to bear arms against the United States and other countries. He opened his speech “Yesterday, December 7th, 1941-A day which will live in infamy. The United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan” (Roosevelt, 1941). This statement was put on the top because it was the most important sentence in the speech. He showed the attack on Pearl Harbor of Japan to American people, and he wanted to announce that American people’s lives were in huge danger.
