In 1775 the Virginia Convention was deciding to fight against the British and Patrick Henry was ready for this war. He presents his people the speech to fight the British and his argument is “there is no retreat but in submission and slavery” meaning that they have to fight or else they will lose everything to the British.
When Veterans where serving they probably didn’t have nice beds or nice clothes. They probably didn’t get very much food or good food. They had hard times, but they were strong during those hard times. When Veterans served they sacrificed a lot. The veterans sacrificed their family and friends not knowing if they would ever see them again.
I say this to you because it is all of this country 's veterans that make this country great, and this country would be a total disaster without you. I also want to say this because you chose to defend this country and without you there would be no army and no military, so I thank you veterans
Veteran’s Day On the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month of the year, 97 years ago, hostilities rested between Germany and the Allied Nations, marking the end of “the war to end all wars” (World War One), soon evolving as a day devoted to world peace, called “Armistice Day.” However, at the end of the Second World War, President Eisenhower reformed the day to “Veteran’s Day” – a 24-hour period to recognize and appreciate veterans who serve for our freedom and justice in every war.
A veteran is someone who has served a long time in the military, no matter what their age. Veterans are important to our freedom because while serving their time, you have to remember that they are fighting for your right to be free in the United States. Without them, there wouldn’t be any freedom in this world. They fight for what they believe in and what is right for the country. You have to remember, these war vets are putting their lives on the line for people they don’t even know.
In our modern culture we memorialize a lot of things. Things like the achievements of great thinkers from the past such as Martin Luther King Jr. and the founding fathers. Other things that we memorialize are the wars that we have fought in the past, honoring those that fought in them. All of the previously mentioned things are put on a wall, given their own special place, or they have a statue made of them. These things are great and they show that those people did a great thing in their life but let’s be honest, we need to cut it back a little bit.
Do you have a veteran in your family and live in Kentucky? If you do then you must be bamboozled when Veteran's Day rolls around and you don't get to spend the day with them and thank them for their services to this great nation and preserving our freedom. Less than 1% of Kentucky's schools are on a delay or canceled. You may ask "But this is Veteran's Day one of the most important days to our nation!?! Should schools really be on regular schedule?"
The exact definition of a veteran is a person who has had long service or experience in a particular occupation or field, for example a person who has served or is serving in the armed forces. Today, there are 21.8 million veterans in the United States, who dedicated years of hard work and commitment to our country. There are many different ways that someone could have been involved in fighting for our country. There are five different branches of the military.

To me veteran is a person who risked their life so I could live in a better country. Hope Winston Churchill said “The future is unknowable, but the past should give us hope”. Churchill understood that without the wars, struggles, and hardships that America has been through in the past, we wouldn 't be living in this free country with the hopes that we have today. Without the patriots we had back then, we wouldn 't be here today. On July 4th 1776 America gained its Independence from England. Everyday since then thousands of soldiers risk their lives for our freedom and to secure this independance.

To All Veterans; To those that have served, from the birth of our great nation to our infinite future. To those that thought more of the lives of others more so than of their own lives. To the families that allow these one-in-a-hundred type men and women to serve and jeopardize their lives for the greater good of this distinguished nation. Today I’m thanking you and will forever be thanking you, for I’m proud to say I’m a free man, rather than under the control of tyranny and dictatorship. You have impacted this great nation in a way that at times is incomprehensible when considering what separates us from other nations across the world.
The US has grappled with many questions about society’s obligations as to whether or not to offer services and benefits to the men and women in the armed forces. Supporters argue that helping veterans will help the society as whole and opponents argue that we shouldn’t be increasing our federal government spending in repaying veterans. Although I do see where people can argue that we are spending too much money on helping veterans after war, I believe that the government owes them for what they have done for the country, despite the cost. The government owes certain benefits to veterans because the men and women in the armed forces deserve to be welcomed home with a generous system of services for what they have done for the country. Helping veterans goes way back all the way to the 1600s.
Starting in kindergarten, we have allocated thirty seconds of every morning to reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. I remember hearing the announcement to do the Pledge, and sighing because I had to stand and perform this seemingly pointless task. As a little kid, I didn’t know what the Pledge of Allegiance really meant or why we had to do it. All I knew is that we would be performing the monotonous, fancy sounding, thirty-one worded stanza daily. While it was against the law for teachers to force us to say the Pledge, it was expected.
