Peter William Sutcliffe is a British serial killer who was given the name “The Yorkshire Ripper” by the press. He was born on June 2, 1946 in Bingley, United Kingdom. As a boy he was reserved, and preferred spending time with his mother. He was raised in rather normal surroundings, his father; John Sutcliffe was a mill owner. Peter hated school. He found it hard to make friends and was often bullied. Once, unable to take anymore, he hid from school for a fortnight. When his parents and school realized the reason, they stopped the bullying He was a loner and his grades were fairly poor. Sutcliffe committed his second assault on the night of 5 July 1975 in Keighley. He attacked Anna Rogulskyj, who was walking alone, striking her unconscious with a ball-peen hammer and slashing her stomach with a knife. Disturbed by a neighbor, he left without killing her. The victim survived after extensive medical intervention but was emotionally traumatized by this attack. Sutcliffe was a schizoid personal who was able to come home to be a husband while still committing his brutal attacks. His method of murder was hitting with a hammer and stabbing with a knife. When his mother died there was an 11 month “cooling off” period. In 1979, the authorities were thrown off track with letter and tapes from someone claiming to be the ripper. Sutcliffe was interviewed but was later cleared because he didn’t have the “accent” the person had in the tape. There had been 13 victims with 7 attempted murders. On January 2, 1981 Sutcliffe was arrested by the police for displaying false number plates on his Rover car. The next day, while he was being questioned at the station, Sutcliffe quickly confessed to his crimes. He was convicted of the 13 murders and sentenced to no less than 30
