In the novel The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King, the main character Peter is faced with many events that impact him. Peter deals with the loss of his father. He then becomes King for a while and then his brother becomes King because Peter goes to jail for the murder of his father which later we find out that he did not commit. These events can change the overall character of Peter. It also connects to the overall meaning of the story. The first significant event that impacts Peter is when Dennis, Peter’s butler, finds the box with the dead mouse and poisonous dust that killed King Roland in a secret place of Peter’s room. Flagg, the magician, was the one who placed all of this in Peter’s room. He took Peter’s box when he was younger and said he would use it one day to prevent Peter from inheriting the throne. From there, Dennis brings the dust to Peyna, the Judge and the second highest in command, and Peyna has Flagg test it. The result of this …show more content…

It stated that King Valera was in The Needle for killing his wife Eleanor. He said his wife died from drinking poisoned wine. He said he did not do it, but it was Flagg that did it. Peter finds this out when he opens the locket and reads “If’ tis so, I cry out to you; Avenge, Avenge, Avenge! Ignore me and my lost Years if you must, but never, never, never ignore my dear Eleanor, murdered as she slept in her Bed! It was not I who poisoned her Wine; I write the name of the Murderer here in Blood; Flagg!’ Twas Flagg! Flagg! Flagg! (King 226).” This impacted Peter because it lets him know that he was not the only one who fell to Flagg’s evilness. He knows now that Flagg has done this before and it is not his first time.
