Philosopher Immanuel Kant had some of the biggest influential ideals through the Western culture. He was born in what is today Germany and was inspired by many philosophers such as Descartes, Plato, Aristotle, Hume and more. He made many contributions to metaphysics, epistemology, ethics and his own categorical imperative.The categorical imperative is an important document because his ideas have translated into teachings we follow today.
One could say that Kant embraced the decline of religious beliefs, at the same time this worried him. Kant believed that by nature we are all inclined towards corruption and selfishness. The phrase has evolved from “ Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” to “treat others the way you want to be treated”. Although Kant believed that people should think logically rather than religiously, Kant believed that religion had a good foundation for societies. One of the ten commandment reads “thou shalt not steal”. Kant does not believe that by not stealing, or by behaving properly one will go to heaven.
